Biomedical Autism Intervention – Glutathione therapy and Autism
One very effective biomedical treatment for Autism is glutathione therapy. Glutathione serves as a powerful antioxidant, the most potent antioxidant in our cells. What makes glutathione so important is that it neutralizes toxins in our cells. In this way glutathione sweeps the toxins out, or at least renders them less harmful to our body.
When we test many children with Autism we find them to have low levels of glutathione. Glutathione levels can be evaluated with a blood test. Toxins can accumulate when glutathione levels are low making glutathione therapy a very important part of the biomedical treatment of Autism. You can get glutathione in a transdermal cream, an oral suspension, an oral powder and an intravenous injection. Intravenous infusion is my preferred form because of the fact that you get 100% of the solution directly into the blood stream.
You bypass the skin and digestive tract which allows the body to begin utilizing the glutathione immediately. The benefits I have seen through the use of glutathione therapy are better eye contact, better focus, less self-stimulatory behaviors and less sensory issues in general. Although the intravenous form is most effective, New Beginnings Nutritionals carries an oral suspension called Lipoceutical Glutathione at www.nbnus.com along with dosing information.
This form can be easy to get and use, especially if you do not have a doctor familiar with the benefits of glutathione therapy. When using the Lipoceutical Glutathione, an effective dose is ¼ tsp for every 30 pounds of body weight, given twice a day. When giving oral glutathione, you need to be aware of the very strong sulphur smell.
New Beginnings suggests that you add a little Stevia to help sweeten the taste of the product. I prefer to recommend the oral suspension over the oral capsule because the oral capsule form tends to feed yeast whereas the oral suspension does not. Yeast can sometimes thrive on sulphur based compounds but that does not seem to happen with the oral suspension. You can also get glutathione transdermal cream from a compounding pharmacy with a prescription. That is another effective form of glutathione, and while I feel that the intravenous form is best, these other forms can provide benefit.
If you want to see your doctor about a prescription for transdermal glutathione, there is a form you can download and print and take to them. Glutathione is an effective and common therapy to increase the antioxidant status of the child as well as provide additional detoxification support.
